Why Work is Important for Employees

Having explored the history of out employment and labor laws, we can now take a closer look at why employment is important. This gets to the very heart of why work is imporant for individuals and, ultimately, for society. In lieu of a long narrative, here is a short list of some of the reasons why work is important for employees:

  • It provides money for survival and even luxuries,
  • It allows the worker to contribute or make a positive impact on society,
  • It provides the worker with something he can identify with,
  • It can provide the worker with a sense of self-esteem or self-fulfillment,
  • It allows the worker to avoid being looked down on for being idle,
  • It provides the woker with something to combat boredom,
  • It affords the worker with people to socialize with, and
  • It provies the worker with a sense of camaraderie with other co-workers.

These are some of the reasons why employees benefit from work; however, the nature of employment itself has been changing dramatically. Let’s take a look at some of these recent changes in the nature of employment.
