Question:

My husband ran from the cops after he ran a stop sign. It was a three county chase ending in a different one that it had started in. They took him to jail and impounded the car. When I talked to the officer, he told me that I had to wait to get the car that it had a police hold on it to get searched for drugs. A few days later, I called the tow yard that had came and got the car and he said that he hadn’t heard anything, but that he would see what he could find out. I called him back later on that afternoon and he said that it was ok to come get the car. The next day the owner of the car and I were going to go get it but I received a phone call from the tow yard saying that the car was back on hold by Barton County. I then called Barton County and asked them what the deal was and the guy that I talked to told me that they had changed their mind and were going to take us to court for the car. Can they do that? The car does not belong to the person that is in jail.
